This board is very old, so it's possible that could be the issue.

How many CRC errors would you need until it started to become worrysome? Look if cable connector is connected good with connector on mainbord/harddisk. If you used the same HDD cable as the old drive there is a chance the HDD cable may have caused the same errors as the first drive while using it. I really don't relish the idea of transferring 4TB of data at 25MB/s (40+ hours!) just to reset the drive. I'll defnitely give that a try.
