It is yet unpatched by VMware. open-vm-tools doesn't get you the kernel modules necessary to run the tools. Subscribing... I know I should probably use the vmware-hgfsclient tool, but I realy don't know how. Other sites report just needing to fix the vmhgfs module. So, now I'd think that if openSUSE can't push patches nearly in realtime as they're created on the github site, a script should be created that installs patches with "one click." Using that info I then ran the following which worked for me: cd /mnt sudo mkdir win7share sudo mount -t vmhgfs .host:/win7share /mnt/win7share I was then able to access the Win Unknown Filesystem Type Vmhgfs Any assistance would be appreciated.

FYI, backticks around commands expand the command so since vmware-hgfsclient returns the "share name", then `vmware-hgfsclient`, uses the returned "share name" as the argument for vmware-hgfsmounter. Open-vm-tools Cannot Mount Filesystem No Such Device Since the VMware KB is only a few months old, although open-vm-tools has been in Factory for awhile, I'm guessing this started being pushed through the standard repos is only a Cannot Canonicalize Mount Point Then, reboot the guest, and run sudo apt-get install open-vm-tools.

Previously, I couldn't mount windows shared folder after installing vmware tools. IMO this is a very serious issue that needs to be reported if the two of us aren't just looking at co-incidental anomalies. So, it looks like it's not possible to use proprietary tools in any distro that automatically installs open-vm-tools anymore.
