Browse other questions tagged system-installation or ask your own question. In the end, it turns out the iso file I downloaded was somehow out of date or wrong. So my HD must be allright too. The later torrent iso returns an error and exits when I am prompted for my name, computer's ID and password.
Test the iso and if that is ok, format and recreate the usb stick. I've burned the dvd on Verbatim DVD+R (then I've tried also Sony DVD+R too, on slow speed) - in both cases dvd image burned ok (md5 sum is ok too). Any ideas on how I can resolve this?
That is, 2 identical sticks, but from different brands, must still have a small difference, which trigger this nasty problem. That worked. My PC has four memory slots but with 3 actually memory sticks. 256Mb (original memory stick that came with computer) + 1Gb (cheap no brand stick added later) + 1GB (another Ubuntu Input Output Error Copying File I'm not sure if this solution will help everyone.
