Did whatever sequence you have used actually reset the EV3, or did it return you to the menu? bleh. only suggestion might be to use Windows and see what it makes of it ...... I suspect that has to do with the search path perhaps not containing the "right" folders.

The fsck utility itself usually won't let itself be run on a mounted FS because most file systems don't support live FS checks.
