Fix Error loading operating system in Windows XP You can fix this error without a Windows XP installation disc as you don't need to boot into its Recovery Console. SMARTdrv is a tool you should see in your BIOS----- it can tell you if the drive is about to fail so make sure it is set to Enabled, at least A typical time frame is an hour to run the Recovery, using maybe 3 disks.....yours may be not as long, or a bit longer. I thought by putting the Windows disk in, I could run a recovery.
